Ferrite core, high-frequency switching

SMPS transformers are ferrite-core transformers wound to a specific switch-mode converter topology, frequency, and turns ratio rather than sold as a fixed catalog part. Ferrite core shapes such as E, EE, EFD, RM, and pot cores keep core losses low at the tens-to-hundreds-of-kHz switching frequencies typical of flyback, forward, half-bridge, and push-pull converters. Turns ratio, isolation voltage, leakage inductance, and pin and creepage layout are all set by the converter design, so the part's specification is an output of the design rather than a selection from a catalog. Because of that, the family has no published sub-series list: each part is engineered against the customer's schematic and mechanical envelope.

Insulation

Insulation is driven by the converter's isolation requirement — margin-wound construction or triple-insulated wire for safety isolation, with a varnish or resin impregnation applied where the application calls for it; confirm the exact options for a given design at inquiry.
